This is our most popular cigar, and my personal favorite smoke. Named for my great-grandfather, Luigi Vallorani, the patriarch of our Vallorani family line.

Born in a small town in Marche, Italy, in 1891, Luigi had an affinity for fine cigars. In the evenings Luigi could often be found tending a fire, enjoying a smoldering cigar.

One cold Italian night, Luigi lit one of his cigars to break some news to his son, my grandfather Eugenio. Luigi had been very upset to see his son forced to march in a youth parade honoring Benito Mussolini and Adolf Hitler in Rome, and planned immediately to send him to live with relatives in Pennsylvania.

Luigi set his cigar down to stoke the fire, and when he reached to pick it back up, his hand instead grasped a live scorpion! Quickly throwing the venemous pest into the fire, Luigi realized he had been given the perfect example. He explained to my grandfather that men like Mussolini and Hitler were venemous, and were going to bring great harm until someone threw them into the fire like the scorpion. My grandfather would go on to serve in the South Pacific during WWII, in the U.S. Army Air Corps.

This is one of many examples that capture the essence of Luigi’s long life. He was a strong, independent man who was not afraid to do whatever it took to protect his family and his business. You can read more of our family's history in my first book, Amazon bestseller The Wolves and the Mandolin (ForbesBooks; 2017).
